Net your own frog from Stockport’s Gigantic Leap Frog Art Trail before they’re going… going… Gone!
The 21 gigantic frogs that made up Stockport’s Gigantic Leap Frog Art Trail throughout the summer and seven of the One Stockport frogs that took up residence across the borough have hopped out of Stockport to prepare to go under the hammer before hopping of for pastures and ponds new!
Taking place at Stockport County’s Edgeley Park ground, this is your chance to net yourself your very own frog. Did you have a favourite frog?
Could Spider Frog be hopping over your garden gate? Yves San Le Frog will certainly add a touch of glamour. And petrol heads are sure to want to park GulpOil Racing on the drive. With 28 vibrant frogs to choose from, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Sponsored by local businesses, the frogs are the brainchild of Totally Stockport, the team from Stockport’s town centre Business Improvement District (BID). Over the summer, thousands of people of all ages leapt out of lockdown to discover all the frogs on the trail and the competition to win a Frog on a Rock attracted over 2,000 entries. The winner will be announced on the night.
The auction, conducted by Simon Charles Auctioneers, will take place at Edgeley Park on Wednesday 10th November from 6pm. A welcome drink and canapés will be served as visitors have the chance to see all the frogs together in one place for the last time before they go under the hammer at 8pm. This year, all proceeds of the auction are being donated to St Ann’s Hospice as the charity celebrate their 50th anniversary year.
Totally Stockport’s manager Paul Taylor said:
“After a torrid 18 months, Stockport’s Gigantic Leap Frog Art Trail has been a great success and provided a huge boost for everyone. After the pandemic impacted on our freedom, the frogs have provided the perfect catalyst to attract people back into Stockport and out into the district centres.
“We are hugely grateful to our sponsors, the artists and the whole team who have made this happen. It’s been fantastic to see so many families – mums, dads, children, teenagers, grandparents, people of all ages – having a fun day out following the frog art trail.
“It’s going to be sad to see the frogs leave but we have even bigger and better plans for the future!”
Organisations which have sponsored this year’s frogs include: Carecall, musicMagpie, Holiday Inn Experss, Nexperia, Vernon Building Society, Orbit Developments, Robinsons Brewery, St Ann’s Hospice, Marketing Stockport, Girlguiding Stockport, Merseyway, Amstone, Simon Charles Auctioneers, Floreeda and Stockport County.
