The Safer Stockport Partnership (SSP), which includes Stockport Council and Greater Manchester Police, will be holding a month long initiative aimed at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour across Stockport.
The ‘Safer in Stockport’ initiative will be launched with the crushing of off-road motorcycles that have been seized by the Police. This will be a public event on Friday 2nd August, from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, at the Tesco Supermarket Car Park, Tiviot Way, Portwood in Stockport.
These motorcycles have been confiscated under Police powers for being driven illegally on public roads, for causing damage to public spaces and for creating nuisance to residents, which is one of the main complaints the SSP receives over the summer.
Councillor Mark Weldon, Stockport Council’s Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Corporate, Customer and Community Services, said:
“Crime and anti-social behaviour has fallen in Stockport for a record nine years and we want this trend to continue. The SSP has a range of measures to help people enjoy the summer holiday season that also serve to prevent them from becoming victims of crime.
“During the month of August there will be a series of ‘Safer in Stockport’ initiatives, starting with the bike crushing event. These events will provide people with the information they need to protect themselves from criminal and anti-social behaviour during the holiday period whether they are staying at home or are going away.”
The four key themes of initiative are as follows:
- Reducing Anti-Social Behaviour
- Improving Home Safety
- Healthy Holidaying
- Respect For Others
