Stockport-based electrical wholesaler, Lancashire Electrical Distributors, are backing Summer’s Mission in its Christmas campaign to make sure no child in Greater Manchester goes without a Christmas present.
To support the campaign, Lancashire Electrical Distributors have set up a box at its trade counters in Hazel Grove and Oldham to collect donations of toys, chocolate and other treats to give to children in Manchester who would otherwise get no gifts this Christmas.
The charity was started by local child, Summer Best, who after learning about poverty in school, aged 5, took up the mission to make sure no child in Greater Manchester is without. Initially supporting foodbanks, Summer (now aged 10) and her charity have now taken on a Christmas Mission too where toys, treats and every day food essentials are donated for them to distribute to those who really need them.
She has also raised money for the neo-natal units at Wythenshawe, where Summer was born 13 weeks premature, and St Mary’s hospitals to fund refurbishments so families can be in a nice environment during the difficult times spent there.
Explaining Lancashire Electrical Distributors’ support for the campaign, Director Rachel Kilroe said:
“[Summer’s] mother who runs her socials reached out to me and told us all about the charity.
“I was blown away by the maturity and kindness of such a young girl so wanted to get involved.”
Donations are being accepted at Lancashire Electrical Distributors’s sites at Pepper Road, Hazel Grove, and on King Street, Oldham, until the first week of December to ensure gifts can be given out in time for Christmas.
