Travellers from Manchester Airport will soon be able to travel to the world’s most northerly city, Tromsø in Norway, as two airlines begin services.
Norwegian will begin flights on Wednesday 30th October, operating twice per week, with easyJet to also operate a twice-weekly service starting on 19th November, both with a direct flight time of just over three hours.
Tromsø is considered the world’s most northerly city by virtue of having a population above 50,000 and is perched on an island in a fjord on Norway’s North Atlantic coast and is the only major Norwegian city inside the Arctic Circle.
Stephen Turner, Chief Commercial Officer, Manchester Airport, said:
“Here at Manchester Airport we’re proud to connect the people of the North to an ever-growing route network of over 200 destinations. These new services to Tromsø are a really exciting addition and give people planning their next city break or adventurous holiday a truly unique option.
“Tromsø is the most northerly destination available from Manchester and visitors will get a true taste of life inside the Arctic Circle.”
Highlights of a break in Tromsø include whale watching, reindeer-drawn sleigh rides, and views of the Northern Lights as well as the folklore of the native Sami culture and monsters of Norse mythology that can be explored through an interactive AR experience at the city’s Troll Museum.
