Whitbread have submitted plans to Stockport Council for a proposed 20-bedroom expansion of their Premier Inn hotel on Buxton Road.
The hotel is situated 1.5 km from Stockport town centre, on the corner of the A6 Buxton Road and Nangreave Road in Heaviley, close to Stockport Crematorium and Cemetery and Aquinas College.
Proposals will see the Bamford Arms pub and restaurant refurbished into an extension of the hotel, with the Premier Inn’s food and drink offer relocated and made only available to hotel guests. Plans also seek permission for an additional structure to be built that will link the two buildings. If approved, the extension will increase the number of bedrooms at the hotel from 66 to 86 and meet the rising demand identified by Whitbread for accommodation in Stockport.
The planning application comes as Whitbread progress with plans to expand their operations in Greater Manchester.
Planning permission was granted earlier this year for a 276-bedroom Premier Inn hotel at Manchester Airport as part of the MIX MANCHESTER development, which is set to be the chain’s largest site in the North-west. Work is also underway on a new city centre hotel, while plans have also been put forward for expansion of sites at Cheadle Royal and West Didsbury.
