Low-cost airline, easyJet, has announced it will expand its operations at Manchester Airport, adding a 22nd aircraft, new routes and around 40 additional jobs.
The new aircraft, expected to begin flying from next summer, will add to their airline’s offer for customers in the North West, and enable a new route to the Greek island of Skiathos. The new twice-weekly service will operate from 5th May on Tuesdays and Sundays m with seats going on sale from the 30th November.
The addition of the new Airbus A320neo aircraft to the easyJet fleet at Manchester airport will create around 40 local job opportunities. The aircraft also brings a number environmental and operational efficiencies compared to current generation of planes, resulting in at least 15% less CO2 emissions and 50% less noise during take-off and landing.
Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said:
“We continue to see opportunity to offer our customers in the North West even more choice, which is why we are delighted to announce the expansion of our aircraft fleet in Manchester and more new routes for our network.
“This is a testament to our focus on providing great value and convenient connectivity from Manchester, while continuing to support job opportunities for the local economy.
“With flights on sale later this week, now is a great time to book to get the best fares and we can’t wait to welcome customers onboard.”
The announcement follows Manchester Airport’s recent reveal that passenger numbers for October overtook the pre-pandemic levels, and build on 18 months of new routes being added by easyJet from the Northern Hub. Since last year, the airline has added new connections to Belfast City, Grenoble, Reus, Istanbul, Paris, Fuerteventura, La Rochelle, Burgas in Bulgaria, Murcia in Spain and Chania in Crete; new services to Kittilä in Lapland and Istanbul in Turkey have also begun flying from this winter.
