Stockport residents who missed out on a chance for a share of a £3m energy savings scheme have another opportunity from today, (Monday March 4th) to get a better deal.
Over 35,000 Greater Manchester residents signed up to the GM Fair Energy scheme in January – more than any other energy switching project in the UK – and offers were sent out to those residents over the last few weeks.
The total savings to people across Greater Manchester is £3.1m with an average saving of around £122 a year. Some households have slashed their bills by hundreds of pounds a year.
Those who missed out have a second chance with a second scheme opening on March 4th.
Anyone interested is being urged to register by visiting www.gmfairenergy.com or calling 0800 009 3363 before April 8th.
Those who register for the scheme, led by all 10 Greater Manchester councils, are placed into a ‘reverse auction’ and offered new energy deals which they can either accept or reject.
Although targeted at people in Greater Manchester, the scheme will be open to anyone in the UK and unlike many other schemes is open to people on pre-payment meters.
Councillor Stuart Bodsworth, Executive Member for Sustainable Futures at Stockport Council, said: “Following the scheme’s successful launch in January, tens of thousands of people, including many from Stockport, registered and achieved savings of over £3m on their bills.
“I am aware that many residents don’t have the time to look around for the best deal from energy providers, or don’t know where to start. I would urge people to look at this Council-backed scheme but if you don’t like the deal offered you don’t have to switch. People have nothing to lose by signing up and they could also make significant savings on their energy bills. At a time of steadily rising fuel costs, it is an opportunity that few can afford to miss,” Cllr Bodsworth added,
