Construction of £45m Redrock Stockport leisure scheme under way

Stockport Council has announced that construction of its £45m leisure scheme, Redrock Stockport, has started on site, marking a significant milestone for both the council and Stockport town centre.

Once completed, Redrock Stockport will make visiting the town centre a more appealing experience and extend the time people will spend there, enjoying a meal either before or after a visit to the cinema, bringing both vibrancy and an added attraction to the town centre for the benefit of residents, businesses, investors and visitors.

Wates has been awarded the contract to build Redrock Stockport, which will see them working on behalf of the Council to turn their vision for this area into a reality.

Redrock is a Council led scheme that will transform a key area of Stockport town centre.

The development is part of the Stockport Council’s “Investing in Stockport” programme that is seeing around £900m invested into Growth projects by the Council and its partners as they work to make Stockport an even better place to live, work and visit.

Redrock Stockport will provide 75,000 sq ft of leisure, retail and restaurants together with a 360-space multi-storey car park to be managed by NCP.

Significant occupiers already include The Light Cinema who will operate a 10 screen cinema as well as Pizza Express and Zizzi who will open restaurants as part of the scheme.

As part of the Redrock development works, the Bridgefield Street car park ramp will be removed this weekend – April 16 and 17 – subject to weather conditions.

“Redrock Stockport will bring new restaurants and first class leisure facilities to the heart of the town centre for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

“Up until this point, the build programme has seen Wates appoint a local supply chain; a commitment that is set to provide an economic boost to the area and generate a host of training and employment opportunities for the community.”

GVA and Lunson Mitchenall have been appointed as joint agents for the scheme.
