Graham Luccock, Chair of Trafford and Stockport College Group, has been Highly Commended in the Leadership and Innovation Award category at this year’s Educate North Awards.
The prestigious event, held at The Hilton Manchester Deansgate, recognises the outstanding achievements of academic leaders and institutions across the North of England.
Graham’s commendation stands as a testament to over two decades of dedicated service, transformative leadership, and his unwavering commitment to improving lives through education.
The judging panel gave several reasons for recognising Graham; they said:
“Judges unanimously voted to award Graham this highly commended accolade due to his exceptional and sustained voluntary service as Chair of the Corporation for Trafford & Stockport College Group.
“Judges were impressed by Graham’s unwavering dedication, leadership, and impact on the further education sector, particularly his ability to transform the fortunes of the Group and its colleges.
“His commitment to improving the lives of others, combined with his exemplary service and caring disposition, makes him a deserving candidate for this recognition.”
Graham has served as a governor for the Group for 22 years and as Chair for the last 17. Under his governance, Trafford & Stockport College Group has grown to support over 11,000 students across the boroughs of Trafford and Stockport and his leadership has been pivotal in two major college mergers.
In 2021, Graham played a key role in welcoming Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College into the Group – a challenging move undertaken in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He is also currently overseeing a £27 million redevelopment project at Cheadle College, following the successful delivery of a £23 million transformation at Stockport College. Both investments aim to ensure exceptional student facilities and experiences across all campuses.
Graham said of the accolade:
“It is a privilege to be a member of a successful College Group, and I enjoy the challenge that comes with being Chair of Governors. Together, the Governors, Chief Executive, and our talented staff work hard to improve the life chances and employment prospects of all our students.
“I believe the Further Education sector is crucial, as it provides young people and adult learners with highly relevant qualifications and skills. It also aims to instil confidence in their ability to use their talents for a happy, fulfilling life and to make a significant contribution to the local and national economy. FE equips our students with practical, hands-on skills that match what employers need.”
James Scott, Principal & CEO of Trafford & Stockport College Group, said:
“Graham’s commendation is so richly deserved. His integrity, vision and relentless commitment to students and staff alike have transformed our Group and the communities we serve. He is a leader who truly inspires all those around him.”
Graham’s collaborative leadership extends across Greater Manchester, where he brings together Chairs from colleges across the region to foster unity and shared progress.
The Educate North Awards, now in their 11th year, continue to honour individuals and organisations who are driving innovation, transformation and impact in the education sector.
