Stockport businesses are being encouraged to think about how they support unpaid carers in their workforce as part of fully-funded training being offered by local charity, Signpost for Carers.
The organisation’s Think Carer – Carer Champion Workplace Training Programme us a a CPD-accredited course designed specifically to help Stockport businesses identify and support unpaid carers within their workforce.
Running to March 2026, this fully funded opportunity will allow up to 300 local employers to nominate a member of staff to become a Carer Champion and larger organisations can have one per department. Champions will gain the knowledge, tools, and confidence to:
- Recognise and support colleagues with caring responsibilities
- Promote carer-friendly policies and culture within their workplace
- Improve staff wellbeing, retention, and inclusion
One participant to have already taken part in the training, Isabelle, said:
“The Think Carer training was extremely informative and engaging, providing me with valuable knowledge that will positively influence how I support carers in the workplace.”
As part of Stockport’s Live Well initiative, this project supports local employers to reduce inequalities in access to work, strengthen inclusive recruitment, and build stronger connections with the voluntary and community sector.
Signpost for Carers has been awarded funding through the Economic Inactivity Trailblazer Stockport VCFSE Work & Skills Fund 2025/26, a UK Government–funded initiative delivered in partnership with Sector 3, Stockport Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), to provide the training at no cost to businesses until the end March 2026.
This is a fantastic, fully funded opportunity to take positive action for your workforce and help make Stockport a more carer-aware borough. Places are fully funded but available only until March 2026, dates during February 2026 are available to book via the Signpost for Carers Eventbrite page.
For larger businesses where multiple colleagues across different departments would benefit from Think Carer training, contact Signpost for Carers for additional options.
