Stockport Council has launched a public consultation on proposals to make journeys on foot and by bike easier when travelling around Edgeley and Stockport town centre.
Proposals form part of the Bee Network of 1,800 miles of walking and cycling routes being delivered across Greater Manchester to help make active travel safer and a genuine alternative to the car. Once complete, the network will be the UK’s largest joined-up system of walking and cycling routes.

Proposals put forward by Stockport Council, and developed in partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) will provide improved routes between Edgeley and the town centre, as well as links to Stockport College, the Marketplace area, Stockport Rail Station and the Stockport Interchange and Podium Park currently being developed to replace the existing bus station.
Key works being considered as part of the project include a new pedestrian and cycle bridge between King Street West and Thomson Street over the railway line, as well as improved connections between the Railway Station, Bus Interchange and A6.

Walking and cycling improvements for the Markets area are currently being developed and will be subject to a separate public consultation later this year.
The public consultation on the plans is running until 2nd July 2021. Reponses to this consultation will be considered as part of the scheme development and approval process prior to any implementation. The council is particular keen to hear the views of town centre businesses on proposals.
