The Brinnington area of Stockport is celebrating after receiving £1million of Lottery funding.
The funding comes from the ‘Big Local’ programme. Big Local, funded through a £200m Big Lottery Fund investment and managed by local trust, is helping 150 small communities across England to make their areas even better places to live, enabling residents to identify priorities that matter to them and take positive action.
At least £1m will be made available to Brinnington over the next ten years, to invest through grants, social investments, and procuring services to make the area an even better place to live.
Brinnington was selected following visits to the area and to Stockport by a National Lottery representative who met local residents as well as Stockport Council and Stockport Homes staff who provide services in the area.
Resident and health trainer Marie O’Malley said: “This is fantastic news and a very proud moment for residents. Those residents who spoke to the National Lottery representative were very positive about the area and praised the commitment shown to the area by Stockport Council and its partners. Brinnington has a thriving and strong community, and being selected as a Big Local will significantly boost the area.”
Councillor Mark Weldon, Executive Member for Supporting Communities, added: “I am delighted to hear that Brinnington is to receive £1m of Lottery funding. The involvement of ‘Big Local’ will build on the positive work being carried out by residents, local community groups, the Council and its partners. The funding will help make Brinnington an even better place to live by helping people to develop the skills and confidence to identify the things that matter to them and to take action.”
