Stockport Council’s Executive has agreed the next steps for the regeneration of Brinnington, which includes plans for 292 new homes and new high quality, accessible sport and leisure facilities.
New leisure facilities will be provided at a more central location, replacing the Life Leisure Lapwing centre. This was one of the outcomes of a borough-wide consultation on leisure facilities undertaken by the Council in 2011.
Countryside Properties has been appointed as the preferred developer to deliver new housing across a number of sites.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
“We’ve been working hard for a number of years to improve housing and facilities in Brinnington and this marks a significant step forward. The next step is to talk to local people and find out their views on the developments. We’re going to start consulting with residents and community groups in the next few months and I would encourage everyone to have their say.“
A consultation regarding the proposed relocation of Castle Hill High School (SEN) from their current base in Brinnington to the site the former Offerton School is on-going as part of the plans. Interested parties can give their views on the proposals by visiting www.stockport.gov.uk/castlehill or attending a drop in session before Friday 10 May.
