Freight forwarding business, Blacksmith Freight Services, has taken 33,000 sq ft warehouse space at Manchester Airport’s World Freight Terminal.
The business already occupies a 12,000 sq ft office and warehouse unit at the terminal, and the additional warehouse will support the continued growth of the firm, spurred by the ongoing ecommerce boom triggered by the coronavirus pandemic. Business operations will remain at Blacksmith’s original site, the new warehouse will support storage and distribution functions, and the business is expected to create a number of new jobs at the site to support its expansion.
Roger Black, Blacksmith Freight Services CEO, said:
“As a local business, we are pleased to be able to occupy such prime warehouse space.
“The location at Manchester Airport offers excellent connectivity for our clients, and this new facility will enable us to continue to deliver high quality and customised service to our customer base and partners, both in the UK and globally.”
The deal follows plans by investors Columbia Threadneedle announced in April to develop 235,000 sq ft of additional logistics warehouse units at Manchester Airport’s World Freight Terminal as part of a three year development programme. Completion of new units is anticipated for Spring 2023.
Blacksmith Freight Services is a London and Manchester based business, offering local third-party logistics and freight forwarding services.
