A brand new £15m scheme for Manchester’s Airport City has been given the go-ahead after planning permission was been granted for the latest development that could create up to 125 jobs and be completed early next year, 2016.
Work will begin within weeks on the 130,000 sq. ft. new-build property, known as ALPHA, designed to meet growing demand for small to medium logistics units at Airport City Manchester’s Global Logistics site – the flagship Enterprise Zone development.
‘Alpha’ will be ideally located, adjacent to Manchester Airport’s existing cargo centre and Junction 6 of the M56 Motorway, and offer units from 17,500 to 35,000 sq. ft., arranged in a single terrace and providing bespoke office space within its own fenced and gated yard with dedicated car parking and HGV delivery access.
Lynda Shillaw, MAG’s Divisional Property CEO, said:
“We are seeing healthy demand for logistics property at Airport City and the ALPHA development is an exciting addition to the range of products available to occupiers.
“ALPHA has an unrivalled location at Manchester Airport, with direct links to over 210 global destinations and with great access to the UK’s motorway network, enabling rapid movement of goods to market across the country.
Being located at Airport City means unrivalled access to the international market place, boosting export opportunities and opening up exciting new opportunities, whether you are a local business, or a global businesses looking to establish a presence in the North West.”
Manchester Airport Group (MAG) anticipates further development after plans were submitted in December 2014 for the creation of a 260,000 sq ft logistics unit at Airport City Manchester.
Earlier last year, international logistics company DHL took occupation of a brand new and bespoke facility totalling 37,308 sq ft. Constructed in less than nine months, the new DHL Service Point, was the first the first business to locate at the flagship Enterprise Zone development.
Airport City’s Global Logistics hub, part of the UK Government-designated Enterprise Zone for Greater Manchester, was granted outline planning permission in November 2012 for the development of 1.4 million sq ft of logistics space and 36.6 acres of new landscaping.
A total of 1,800 jobs are likely to be created by expanding Manchester Airport’s successful freight terminal to improve international trade, cut transit times and drive more efficient, sustainable supply chains.
The Global Logistics site forms part of a wider £800 million, 10 year, Airport City development by Manchester Airports Group (MAG) that will transform Manchester Airport from a regional transport hub into an international destination in its own right. The first of its kind in the UK, it will compete with successful airport cities across Europe including Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Barcelona. Manchester’s new Airport City aims to attract inward investment and provide new employment opportunities – further enhancing the city’s growing status as a major European business location.
The appointed agents working on the scheme are CBRE and JLL.
