A public consultation has launched on plans to build over 100 new homes on disused playing fields off Dialstone Lane owned by Stockport Grammar School.
Developers, Story Homes, have revealed plans for the site, which propose 112 new homes, 56 of which will be released as affordable housing, and will comprise a mix of one- to five-bedroom properties across apartment buildings, terraced, semi-detached and detached properties. Plans for the site also include children’s play areas and public green space with significant tree planting, with all homes also featuring solar photovoltaic panels and electric vehicle charging facilities.
The playing fields, accessed from Dialstone Lane, are discontinuous with the rest of Stockport Grammar School’s campus, and have gone unused for over seven years owing to safeguarding challenges for the school in using them. Funds raised by the school from the development of housing on the site will support Stockport Grammar School’s Bursary programme, supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds to attend the independent school.
Initial plans for the site have been published as part of a public consultation on the development before a formal planning application is submitted to Stockport Council. If final plans are approved, developers hope to begin work on the scheme in 2025.
The consultation runs until Monday 5th February 2024 online via a dedicated website for the development. Offline drop-in events will also take place on the 22nd and 24th January to give local residents the opportunity to meet the project team and provide feedback.
