Work is due to begin on the construction of a new flood alleviation scheme in Marple Bridge commissioned by Stockport Council.
Investigations by the Council into flooding incidents at the site highlighted the need for an additional surface water drainage system. The new system has been designed to act in times of exceptional rainfall or when the existing drainage network experiences operational failures.
The pretty area of Marple Bridge in Stockport has suffered from flooding
Councillor Kevin Hogg, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Public Realm, said:
“These are essential works to reduce the risk of flooding to the area. I would like to thank road users in advance for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience this work may cause.”
Work involves the installation of combined kerb drainage blocks along the footway outside numbers 10 and 12 Town Street in Marple Bridge, plus associated pipework under the main carriageway to a new outfall at the Town Street Retaining Wall.
The work is due to begin on Monday 22nd April and will last for a period of four weeks. Temporary traffic control measures will be in place during normal working hours which will be removed at the end of each working day.
