March will see a number of road closures throughout Stockport town centre as work to maintain and invest in infrastructure gets underway.
Work will begin on Monday 3rd March to carry out planned maintenance to the entrance ramp to Redrock car park.
As a result of the work, the ramp to access the Redrock and Merseyway car parks will be closed to traffic. The works will take around 3 weeks to complete, subject to weather conditions, during which time diversion signs will be in place for motorists. The car park itself will remain open, and all access will be via the Merseyway St Petersgate entrance, with with exit via High St and Great Underbank.
Elsewhere in the town centre, Daw Bank will be closed from 12th to 30th March inclusive as part of ongoing walking and cycling improvements to the A6 Wellington Road. Signed diversion routes for vehicles and cyclists will be in place, with pedestrian access maintained during the majority of works.
The road closure will accommodate the scaffolding required for the installation of railings on the A6 Viaduct parapet. The railings are required to increase the height of the parapet to allow cyclists to use the new sections of shared footway and cycleway on the approaches to the new crossing. Work on the project began in January 2025.
At the end of March, the Greek Street bridge across the railway line will also close from 31st March until Spring 2026. The closure will allow Network Rail to complete a £16 million investment in replacing the structure, which first opened in 1958, and will also see some disruption to rail services throughout 2025.
