Walthew House raised £7,000 at Stockport Beer and Cider Festival thanks to the support of Stockport businesses and was absolutely delighted to announce that they received such a huge amount from the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)’s event.
The Stockport charity for people with sight and hearing loss received overwhelming support from several local organisations who sponsored the charity and provided manpower to pull pints and fundraise.
Sainsbury’s, Cheadle sponsored the charity at the festival, providing £400. Clarke Nicklin, The Hind’s Head in Heaton Norris, The Railway pub on Wellington Road, RBS corporate banking in Underbank and Starkey Labs in Hazel Grove also sponsored the charity. Plus, many local businesses bought a square of advertising on the gamecard, raising £380 in total.
Around 50 volunteers are needed to support the charity’s activities over the three days so they were delighted to get so many local businesses on board for this too. Equity Housing Project provided an amazing 10 volunteers! Booth Ainsworth, The Challenge Network, Lloyds Edgeley branch, MAN Diesel, Minted Melon, RBS and Sainsbury’s Cheadle all got involved too.
Helen Haggerty from Equity said:
“We all enjoyed the day and we were proud to be part of such a great fund-raising event.”
Jane Stewart from RBS said:
“It was great fun volunteering. I really could get addicted to serving at beer festivals!”
It is the third and final year for Walthew House as the festival charity. They have raised around £19,000 in total which has made a huge difference to the independent local charity which relies on local support to provide its services.
Fundraiser Kathryn Sheldon said:
“The festival has been invaluable for us, the financial aspect is really incredible but it’s also got many local organisations and individuals really involved in the work we do – everyone has been absolutely fantastic. We have to thank the festival committee for choosing us in the first place – we’ve been very fortunate and it will be missed!”
Walthew House supports people in Stockport who are visually impaired or deaf.
