Two new apprentices have joined Hughes as part of the National Apprenticeship Scheme. The 12-month apprenticeships will lead to the award of an NVQ Level 2 in Engineering. Training the next generation and equipping them with the right skills is essential if British industry is to compete successfully on the world stage.
Tom Ferguson and Kristos Leonard have already completed 34 weeks’ training in the factory and are now supplementing their studies by undertaking computer-based training at Hughes’ e-learning centre. Before joining the Company, both apprentices had already expressed an interest in mechanics and engineering and had to go through a two-stage assessment followed by interviews with Hughes before being accepted for training. The NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Engineering, is made up of both a technical certificate and an engineering NVQ.
When they’re not working hard, Tom and Kristos are playing hard. Their shared interest in sport is matched by a shared ambition for the future. When asked what they’d like to be doing in five years’ time, both agreed that they would like to be working at Hughes.
