Stockport County are one step closer to returning to the second tier of English football after a 3-0 win on aggregate over Stevenage grants them a place in the League One Play Off Finals at Wembley.
The Hatters will head to Wembley and face either Bradford or Bolton on Sunday May 24th to look to secure their promotion to the Championship and return to the league’s second tier after a 24-year absence.
After winning the away leg against Stevenage 1-0, Stockport County secured a 2-0 win over their play-off rivals in front of a packed crowd at Edgeley Park last night (13th May) to assure their place in the Play Off Final at Wembley Stadium in less than two weeks time.
In front of nearly 10,000 County supporters, Stevenage had hoped to repeat their previous performance at Edgeley Park, where they had been victorious over the Hatters back in December. However, two first-half goals from Louie Barry and Kyle Wooton in the 14th and 27th minutes saw Stockport County secure control of the match, and move one step closer to their fourth promotion in just eight seasons.
The Hatters will now return to Wembley on Sunday 24th May, with either Bradford or Bolton, who face off tonight (14th May), standing in the way of their return to the Championship.
A full match report of the game against Stevenage is available on the Stockport County website, where details of ticket sales for the Play Off Finals at Wembley will also be announced.
