SK1, Stockport Technical opened its doors to students last week. The school is the first technical school in the country and is pioneering a fresh approach to learning with a firm focus on “education to prepare you to earn a living”. The school enrolled 100 students and is full for the first year.
Philippa Ollerhead, School Principal said:
“I am delighted to be leading such an innovative school and
am passionate about providing a unique learning experience for our students which enables them to enjoy school, and to learn in a warm and caring environment. Students will understand the value of their education when they can clearly see how it links to their future employment”.
The school will provide young people aged 14-19 with a real chance of maximizing their eventual employability, by offering them vocational qualifications such as Engineering, Motor Vehicle Engineering, Construction, Health and Social Care
and Pharmaceutical Science alongside key subjects from the National Curriculum, including GCSEs in English, Mathematics, Science, Computer Science, Physical Education, Psychology, and Product Design.

‘This ground breaking school is just what Industry needs.
We want young people who are well qualified in the technical subjects, have a clear awareness of what is expected in the workplace and are motivated to maximise their achievements. This is exactly what this school offers and MAN are extremely proud to be involved in helping and developing young people interested in contributing to Engineering the Future.’
