Set in one of the UK’s iconic locations, The Royal Nawaab Pyramid Stockport is about to star in an hour long, fly-on-the-wall documentary to be screened on Channel 4 on Friday 22nd May.
Filmed over a 6-month period and produced by northwest based Salamanda Media for Channel 4, the access-led observational documentary follows the comings and goings at one of the UK’s biggest and most opulent restaurants, Royal Nawaab Pyramid in Stockport.
“Serving up to 10,000 diners a week, hosting as many as nine weddings and events every weekend, this is the largest Pakistani Indian restaurant on the planet, rewriting the rulebook on how South Asian food is cooked, served and scaled.”
The crew were granted privileged access capturing events as they unfolded in real-time, delving behind the scenes of the world’s biggest curry restaurant, a high-pressure operation running at full tilt. The access doc follows the family and staff who run it as they host everything from weddings and corporate events to religious ceremonies and family gatherings.
It follows the chefs racing against the clock in the kitchens, the front of house team managing thousands of customers, the Events Manager juggling high stakes wedding expectations, and a social media team chasing the next generation of customers.
Open seven days a week and powered by 150 staff, at the centre is owner Mr Mahboob, whose exacting standards shape every service, every dish, every detail.
The three-tiered Royal Nawaab Pyramid officially opened as a major restaurant and banquet hall in April 2025, following a £15 million transformation of the landmark building. Boasting a capacity of 1,500, including the 400-person banquet hall on its ground floor is complemented by smaller private dining rooms, and banqueting halls that can host up to 800 people.
