Stockport’s Blossoms has hit the number 1 spot with their debut album as Robinsons created a brew to celebrate their top single, Charlemagne.
The five-piece released their debut album in Stockport town centre to much fanfare, with Cllr Ganotis in attendance to praise the band for embracing their hometown roots.
Blossoms No 1 album comes after two years of touring, where they have been putting Stockport on the map up and down the country and around the world as they continue to press upon how proud they are to be from their hometown.
Robinsons Brewery teamed up with Stockport’s Blossoms to create a very limited one off beer – Charlemagne, the title of their single from the album – to celebrate the release of their debut album.
Charlemagne is a 4.1% ABV full bodied golden ale with a rich malt and hop character that will be sold exclusively at The Blossoms pub in Stockport; the same pub which inspired the name of the band.
Gill Yates, Brands Manager for Robinsons Brewery, said: “We are delighted to be working with Stockport band Blossoms on this very limited edition beer. We are a proud Stockport brewer and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the success of a local band than by creating a beer for their fans.”
Council Leader Cllr Alex Ganotis paid tribute to the band after they hit No 1 with their first album, Blossoms and, like the five-piece, Cllr Ganotis is another proud Stopfordian.
Cllr Ganotis, Leader of Stockport Council said: “On behalf of Stockport Council and the people of Stockport, I’d like to offer our congratulations on this well-deserved achievement to Tom, Joe, Charlie, Josh and Myles.
“For a local band like Blossoms to achieve a No 1 album at the first attempt is something to be very proud of indeed.
“It was great to finally meet the band when they launched the album in Stockport last week where I said to them then that ‘we’re all really proud of them no matter where the album placed in the charts’ because they’ve had a fantastic level of success so far and we’re hoping that this is actually just the beginning.”
Cllr Ganotis, who took part in the Council’s first ever Facebook Live video when talking to the band last Friday, added: “The one thing that struck me when meeting them is that they’re proud to be from Stockport and have even produced Stockport based merchandise that people can buy, so they’ve got a clear connection with the town and that’s something we really want to congratulate them on and associate with.”
Blossoms, named after the landmark pub on the A6 just south of Stockport Town centre, released their debut album last Friday (5 August) just months after famously knocking Adele off the top of the single charts in February.
Since 2014 they have gone from practicing in a scaffolding yard near to Edgeley Park to playing over 200 gigs, including a sell-out crowd in June at Glastonbury, with the band continuing to proudly declare “we’re Blossoms from Stockport” at every show they play.
Stockport’s Blossoms front man and singer, Tom Ogden, 22, said: “We’re over the moon! This is what we wanted and we couldn’t be happier. To be able to say we’re touring the world with a No 1 album under our belts is everything we could have hoped for.
“A massive thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, we hope to continue doing Stockport proud and as Cllr Ganotis has already said, we’re hoping this is just the beginning.”
