Stockport Travelodge has opened in Stockport as Greater Manchester’s first budget hotel brand celebrates 30 years in the region.
Travelodge has also announced its plans to expand with seven new hotels in Greater Manchester, creating 200 new jobs in the area.
One of the UK’s largest independent hotel chains, Stockport Travelodge has opened in Orbit Development’s landmark building, Regent House, in the town centre.
It’s first Greater Manchester hotel opened in 1987, on the M62 at the Birch Eastbound services. Over the last three decades, the hotel chain has expanded across the county and now operates 19 hotels – which include five properties in Manchester city centre and hotels in most of the Greater Manchester boroughs.
Stockport Travelodge is the company’s 540th hotel. The 86-room hotel with Bar Café is situated over several floors and within walking distance to the train and bus stations, giving easy access to Manchester city centre and across Greater Manchester.
The hotel represents an investment of £5 million for Orbit Developments, part of the Emerson Group, and has created 30 new jobs within the local community.
The latest hotel has been designed in the company’s new contemporary brand design and features Travelodge’s latest upgraded room concept and bespoke luxurious king-size Travelodge Dreamer bed.
A champagne reception marked the opening where the Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Chris Gordon joined Tony O’Brien, Travelodge Development Director, who was born and raised in Greater Manchester, to officially open the hotel.
New locations across Greater Manchester include: two sites in Manchester city centre, Oldham, Rochdale, Wigan, Worsley and Swinton. This expansion programme will boost Travelodge’s portfolio to 26 hotels in Greater Manchester.
Tony O’Brien, Travelodge UK Development Director said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our 30th anniversary of trading in Greater Manchester by opening our first hotel in Stockport’s landmark building, Regent House. Over the last three decades, Travelodge has become famous across the county for offering unbeatable value and making travel affordable for everyone, which has helped attract more business and leisure travellers to the area.
“As we look to the future, Greater Manchester is a key growth area for Travelodge. Following our £3 million investment in upgrading the customer experience and raising quality levels across our Greater Manchester hotels, we have seen a double digit increase in sales; interestingly with more business customers staying in our hotels than ever before.
“The Greater Manchester economy is growing at pace and with increasing visitor numbers to the area, there is still a shortage of good quality accommodation at a great value price.”
Mayor of Stockport, Councillor Chris Gordon said: “As a regular customer of Travelodge, I welcome the company’s first hotel in Stockport and I was delighted to be asked to officially open it as Mayor. I appreciate the positive statement of trust in the renewal of the Town Centre by this major investment by a respected national company, which will greatly contribute to the economy of the borough.”
Mark Royle, Director of the Emerson Group, owners of Regent House, said: “We are delighted to welcome Travelodge to Regent House. These recent lettings In Stockport – and also in Sale – provide both further diversification of our property portfolio and secure long term income for the Group. The locations of these two hotels in areas where Orbit Developments has significant office investments will provide current and future tenants with excellent hospitality amenities to everyone’s benefit.”
Lisa Readett, Stockport Travelodge’s District Manager for Greater Manchester – said: “Our Stockport Travelodge has got off to a flying start. We have been literally booked out with business customers during the week and leisure travellers at the weekend, since we opened for business. This is great news for the local economy too, as our research shows that annually Travelodge customers will spend over £2 million with local businesses during their stay with us.
“Customers love our new upgraded contemporary room design and we have been inundated with customer requests on how they can get hold of our bespoke king size Travelodge Dreamer Bed for their home.”
Stockport Travelodge has been styled in the company’s new contemporary brand design. All rooms feature the new luxurious king size Travelodge Dreamer Beds and family rooms include individual beds for the children or for sharing adults. All rooms also include: an en-suite with power shower, flat screen TV with free digital channels, free tea/coffee-making facilities and WIFI.
In addition, Stockport Travelodge offers an unlimited breakfast menu at just £7.95 and an unlimited lighter breakfast at just £5.75.
