Figures involved in Stockport’s ongoing £1 billion town centre regeneration are among those named in Insider’s annual Property Power List.
Sponsored by Fieldfisher and included in July’s North West Business Insider magazine, this annual list profiles 100 key figures in the North West’s property sector.
Included among the Placemakers section of the list (recognising individuals involved in transforming towns and cities in the region) is Stockport Council Chief Executive, Caroline Simpson. Formerly Director of Place at the Council before being appointed as Chief Executive in 2021, she has led in the creation of the town’s Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC), which is bringing forward over 4,000 new homes and 1 million sq ft of commercial space in a 130-acre area on the western side of the town centre.
Also involved in the town centre’s regeneration, Phil Mayall, managing director for the North West at Muse Developments, was named among the region’s top Dealmakers. Regeneration specialists, Muse is the development partner alongside Stockport Council on Stockport Exchange, the town centre’s flagship commercial district next to the railway station, which has attracted the likes of musicMagpie and BASF to the Grade A town centre offices. The fourth phase of development on the site is currently underway.
Phil Mayall is also Development Director at the English Cities Fund, which is the joint venture partner on another key regeneration scheme in Stockport town centre: Stockport 8. A flagship residential scheme within the Stockport MDC area, Stockport 8 is an eight-acre £250 million project to bring forward nearly 900 new homes to the west of the railway station and off Brinksway.
Outside of the town centre, other figures recognised in the North West Business Insider Property Power List include Iftikhar Majid, chairman of Pin Property Consultancy. The developer manages over 2.5 million sq ft of industrial and logistics space across the North West and is currently delivering the redevelopment of the former Cheadle HQ of chemicals firm BASF following their move to the town centre. Pin Property will see the site converted into a 135,000 sq ft warehousing scheme, after securing planning permission for the project last year.
