Patients in Stepping Hill Hospital’s emergency department (A&E) who are living with dementia now have additional support following help from Stockport NHS Charity.
The boards show the month, date, day, time, and weather in a way which is proven to reassure many of those with dementia, particularly in what can be a distressing situation. The boards are already in use elsewhere in the hospital, but Stockport NHS Charity has helped to expand them into the more departments.
The new emergency and urgent care campus currently being built on the hospital site is also receiving funds from Stockport NHS Charity, and funding will help support its dementia friendly design and make the experience better for those living with dementia as well as their families and carers. Examples of this will be seen in the flooring, doors, signage, decoration and reception counters, and a flooring design with diminished glare.
Stockport NHS Charity exists to enhance patient care at Stepping Hill Hospital and in the community. Past projects supported by the charity have also included funding a stroke rehabilitation garden onsite at the hospital where patients pot plants and take gentle exercise to help with their thinking, strength and stamina.
