Time is running out to submit applications to access Stockport Local Fund, a Stockport Council scheme offering cash grants of up to £10,000 for charitable projects in the community.
Anyone can apply, and Stockport Council encourages applications from groups which are not part of a formal organisation or charity. The Stockport Local online directory can also be used to connect individuals with other local groups and services to start projects.
Stockport Local Fund looks to support community-run projects that aim to:
- Reduce loneliness
- Improve physical or mental wellbeing
- Make people feel safer
- Bring different people together
- Make your neighbourhood a better place to live in
Laureen Donnan, Deputy Chief Executive at Stockport Council says:
We are putting the people of Stockport at the heart of what we do. We want to give our communities a stronger voice in the future of their local areas, so we are supporting the local projects that our residents care about. Stockport Local Fund is investing in the ideas that residents feel will help make their neighbourhoods even better places to live in. How could you make your mark in Stockport?”
Applications can be submitted until midnight on Sunday 1st December 2019 via the Stockport Local Fund website.
Schemes which have previously benefited from Stockport Local Fund include The Kitchen, a bakery and café in Stockport Town Centre. Local charity Pure Innovations run the shop, which provides disabled people with the opportunity to learn new skills. The grant provided funds to purchase equipment to set up the bakery.
The Kitchen’s Dave Ferrier said of the Stockport Local Fund:
It’s thanks to Stockport Local Fund that we set-up, we really needed the equipment to make The Kitchen happen, the best thing I have seen is the participants grow in skill and confidence over time. I would recommend the Stockport Local Fund to other organisations; the application compared to other bids was easy and straightforward.”
