Stockport Homes launches annual gardening competition for its residents

Stockport Homes is relaunching its annual gardening competition for its residents and community groups in its neighbourhoods across the borough.

Since its launch, the annual competition has highlighted the amazing individuals, community groups and neighbours that are brightening up the region by going the extra mile in enhancing their gardens. Previous winner, Martin Cassidy, also shared how gardening has helped in other ways:

“It has really helped with my mental health, and after my wife passed away years ago, the calming nature of gardening has provided me with a kind of therapy that allows me to be creative.”

Entries have now opened across this year’s four categories, with £1,000 of shopping vouchers set to be awarded as prizes. This year’s categories are:

• Best Communal Garden. This category is for individuals or groups who have come together to create and look after a community or shared garden. Judges will be considering how vibrant the space is and how the project benefits the local community.
• Best Individual Garden. This category celebrates Stockport Homes customers’ gardening skills, and judges are looking for vibrant and beautiful gardens that are looked after by an individual or household.
• Best Pocket Garden. This award is for residents who have creatively used small spaces, balconies or indoor spaces to create a vibrant environment, ideal for those with houseplants, containers, hanging baskets or unique additions that make the most of small spaces.
• Best Fruit and Veg. This category is all about delicious homegrown produce – judges will be looking for the most impressive fruit and vegetables grown with care by residents.

The best individual garden in the Borough will also receive an additional £250 Love2shop voucher on behalf of Stockport Homes’ grounds maintenance contractor Glendale.

The deadline for submissions is Sunday 26th July and independent judges will judge all entries to the competition in early August. Full terms and conditions and details of how to enter can be found on the Stockport Homes website.
