Stockport County Community Trust gets behind Age UK campaign

Stockport County Community Trust is giving its support to a new national campaign from Age UK to encourage movement for the best possible later life.

The Act Now, Age Better campaign is aimed at people aged 50 to 65, encouraging them to improve their health and wellbeing. The campaign highlights the importance of staying active in midlife through sport, physical activity and movement, as well as inspiring people to try or rediscover activities.

The campaign launched on Tuesday 21 April 2026 and will run for six months until the end of September 2026.

Stockport County Community Trust’s new Health and Wellbeing strategy reflects this approach, introducing programmes that enable people to stay active regardless of age or abilility.

The Trust offers walking football sessions for men and women aged 45+ who want to stay active, enjoy football and socialise in a friendly, non-judgemental environment. For those who enjoy competition, players can also take part in regular tournaments with other teams from across the region.

Community Trust’s Health and Wellbeing department has also recently launched its Wellbeing Goals initiative, funded by The National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund.

The three-year programme will deliver a range of new activities at Edgeley Park and across Stockport for people of all ages, including:

• On Your Side – A wellbeing project for young people aged 16–25.
• Active Lives – A physical activity and lifestyle programme for adults aged 25–65. 
• Strong & Steady – A strength and balance programme for people aged 65+. 
• Talk Health – Health information sessions for adults aged 18+, covering lifestyle support and goal setting. 

The Community Trust also supports local people living with Parkinson’s by delivering tailored physical activity sessions to help manage and ease symptoms through its Parkinson’s Wellbeing Programme.

• Indoor Walking Football takes place every Tuesday. 
• Gentle Movement and Stretching sessions are held every Friday. 

All sessions are delivered by fully trained Community Trust staff and focus on improving mobility, confidence and overall wellbeing.
