Following the 2023 Local Elections earlier in May, Liberal Democrat leadership, Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, has announced the appointment of his Cabinet.
Each Cabinet member holds a portfolio of areas across the council that they are responsible for. Names of chairs and vice of the various committees chairs will also be announced in due course.
The Stockport Council Cabinet is as follows:
- Cllr Mark Roberts – Deputy Leader of the Council, Climate Change and Environment
- Cllr Wendy Meikle – Education, Children and Families
- Cllr Frankie Singleton – Communities, Culture and Sport
- Cllr Jilly Julian – Finance and Resources
- Cllr Grace Baynham – Parks, Highways and Transport Services
- Cllr Colin MacAllister – Economy, Regeneration and Housing
- Cllr Keith Holloway – Health and Adult Social Care
The appointments follow voters in Stockport returning the Liberal Democrats as the largest party on Stockport Council, however, the party fell two seats short of a majority. Despite this, as was revealed by the Manchester Evening News earlier this week, the Labour Party group had agreed it would not seek to secure the support of other groups on Stockport Council to contest the leadership.
Labour councillors, led by Cllr David Meller, are instead expected to chair the local authority’s scrutiny committees, which hold the Cabinet to account, in exchange for stepping aside and allowing the Liberal Democrats to continue to run the council.
