Stockport County Football Club is delighted to announce a unique partnership with the Stockport College Academy of Sport where an exciting programme aimed at aspiring footballers will be delivered.
As part of the programme students will include qualifications in Activity Leadership and FA Coaching over a six month period. The programme will be delivered from the state of the art facilities at Stockport Sports Village which compromises of 11 and small sized 3G pitches, classrooms, gymnasium and dining facilities.
A squad of 20 players will be recruited and competitive games will be played, the students may have the option to enrol again in September for the year long Level 3 course.
As part of this unique opportunity students will receive free match tickets to Stockport County games, gain work experience at the club, coaching and mentoring from Jim Gannon and his team of coaches, regular fixtures and support with travel expenses. The courses are open to those between 16 and 24 years of age and will be starting in January 2013.
County Vice Chairman Spencer Fearn stated “it is important that two of the key organisations in our town are to start working together again, the innovative course will allow those who wish to pursue a career in football the opportunity to not only develop their football skills, but achieve a suite of qualifications that will help them secure employment in the sports industry. We are aiming to recruit 20 students / players in January and in the summer of 2013 we will be setting up four academy sides in partnership with Stockport College.

The College is naturally delighted to have worked in partnership to create an exciting and innovative programme of learning for young people. The course is designed to develop natural sporting talent together with essential employability skills.”
Director of Football James Gannon who will oversee this project said “my vision for development of football in the borough of Stockport has always seen a strong link between Stockport County and Stockport College as the most important partnership. It will allow young people to marry their continued education with a real opportunity for those who have strong aspirations to play football at professional level. We are great advocates of young development players at County and we look forward to helping the talented players of our Town and Borough as they strive to fulfil their football ambition through this programme”.
