From 3–9 November, Stockport joins the national celebration of Youth Work Week, highlighting the life-changing impact of youth workers.
This year’s theme, building brighter futures: safe places, trusted support, and opportunities to thrive, celebrates the essential role youth work plays in helping young people feel secure, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
As part of the week, Stockroom is hosting a special celebration on Saturday 8 November. The event is free to attend and open to everyone, offering an afternoon of fun, creativity, and connection:
- 2 – 4.30 pm: Try your hand at drumming, street dancing, and other creative activities – bring your friends and your energy!
- 5 – 7pm: Stockport Youth Council Party featuring music, games consoles, food, and a chance to discover more about youth activities in Stockport.
During Youth Work Week, Warm Spaces for young people are launching across Stockport, providing safe, welcoming hangout spots where young people can relax, socialise, and take part in activities in a supportive environment. Over the winter months (November 2025 to March 2026), a series of youth nights will be hosted at the following venues. The launch events will also provide an opportunity for young people to share their feedback and help shape future activities:
- Monday 3 Nov, 4:30 – 6:30pm, Lancashire Hill Community Centre
- Tuesday 4 Nov, 3:30 – 6pm, Reddish Vale Youth Centre
- Wednesday 5 Nov, 5 – 7pm, Stockroom
- Thursday 6 Nov, 5 – 7pm, Offerton Community Centre
- Friday 7 Nov, 5 – 7pm, Brinnington Life Leisure (Community Room)
Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection at Stockport Council, said:
“Youth Work Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the dedication of our youth workers and the positive impact they have on the lives of young people. The event at Stockroom is a great way to get involved at this wonderful venue that has been a huge hit with our younger residents.
“The launch of Warm Spaces for young people across the borough ensures they have safe, welcoming places to connect, learn, and thrive. As we move into the colder months, it’s also important that our residents know they have spaces where they can stay warm, supported, and well, both physically and mentally.”
Cllr Wendy Meikle, Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, said:
“Youth Work Week is all about celebrating the energy, creativity, and potential of young people in Stockport. Our youth workers play such an important role in helping them feel confident, supported, and connected to their communities. It’s fantastic to see spaces being created where young people can come together, have fun, and feel part of something positive — especially as we head into the colder months.”
Warm Spaces are part of One Stockport Warm & Well, which provides useful advice on looking after yourself, your home, and others during the colder months.
More live well warm spaces will open across the borough from late November. This includes warm spaces in every Stockport library and Stockroom, so residents can always find a warm welcome, as well as working closely with partners at Sector 3 to deliver a broader network of warm spaces.
