Students from the BSL Sign Sessions class at Stockport Homes Group (SHG) had the exciting opportunity to visit Starkey Hearing Technologies’ site in Hazel Grove to learn more about their innovations for people with hearing loss.
The visit began with a fascinating presentation from Liz, who introduced the group to Starkey’s latest hearing aid technology, Omega AI. Liz explained the impressive capabilities of these innovative devices, highlighting how artificial intelligence is transforming hearing technology and improving the lives of hearing aid users. Students were highly interested in the presentation and asked plenty of thoughtful questions to gain a deeper understanding of the new technology.
Following the introduction, Kevin gave the group a guided tour of the factory. He provided a detailed explanation of the entire hearing aid production process, taking students through each stage from start to finish. The group was able to see first-hand how hearing aids are designed, manufactured, tested, and prepared for users.
Throughout the tour, students were fully engaged and showed great enthusiasm, asking questions and interacting with Kevin as he shared his knowledge and expertise. The visit provided a valuable insight into the world of hearing technology and helped students better understand the importance of communication, accessibility, and innovation for people with hearing loss.
BSL teacher, Lorri Wilson said:
“A huge thank you to Liz, Kevin, and the team at Starkey Hearing for their warm welcome and for providing such an informative and memorable experience. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the visit and came away with a greater appreciation of the technology that supports the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.”
