Following a public consultation announced in December, Royal Mail are making changes to their parcels range. The changes for consumers, and business customers paying with stamps, smartstamp, online postage and franking, should be easier to understand and improve choice, says Royal Mail.
From Tuesday 2 April, the number of weight bands for parcels will more than halve from 15 to seven.
Customers will have the ability for the first time to send parcels between 1kg and 20kg using the Second Class service. Royal Mail believe the increase in Second Class weight limit to 20kg “is a very meaningful addition to customer choice”.
As a result of this their Standard Parcels product will be withdrawn.
They are also introducing two broad parcel categories – small parcels and medium parcels. This will bring Royal Mail in line with other major postal operators, for example, in Germany, France and Italy.
The Online Postage application will be updated to reflect these changes to go live on Tuesday 2 April.
In the meantime the changes and prices including guides and wall charts can be viewed at: www.royalmail.com/prices2013.
The price of a First Class stamp will remain unchanged at 60p and a Second Class stamp will remain unchanged at 50p. The price of a First Class Large Letter stamp will remain at 90p and a Second Class Large Letter stamp at 69p.
