Robinsons pubs raise awareness and fund prostate cancer support services

Over the past year, Stockport’s Robinsons Brewery has partnered with Prostate Cancer Support to help spread the awareness of PSA testing and the support the organisation in providing for those living with prostate cancer.

Prostate Cancer Support is a Stockport-based charity working across the North West, offering peer support, education and access to PSA blood testing. Robinsons Brewery began working with the charity through awareness talks for colleagues and small-scale fundraising, and has grown into a wider partnership focused on a wider impact for our local communities.

Robinsons has so far raised more than £6,000 in support of Prostate Cancer Support through a combination of internal events and fundraising raffles across our pubs. This March, in aid of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the family-owned brewers are launching a limited-edition cask beer.

The limited edition pale ale has been shaped by the people closest to the charity. The name ‘Check Mate’ was suggested by the Prostate Cancer Support’s service users, while the style of beer was chosen by the volunteers who help run the organisation day to day.

Every cask of Check Mate stocked in Robinsons pubs across the North West will play a direct role in supporting prostate health awareness and community testing. 

For every cask of Check Mate pubs buy, Robinsons will fund a PSA blood test for one of its pub-goers at its own PSA testing day in Stockport.

A PSA test is a simple blood test that can help identify potential prostate health issues early. There is currently no routine screening programme, which means events like this and awareness raising are key.

Robinsons Brewery’s PSA Testing Event will take place on Sunday 29th March at Robinsons Visitors Centre in the town centre from 10am to 2pm. Appointments are available, with places funded by Robinsons’ Pub Partners through Check Mate sales. Please note slots must be booked in advance via this link.
