Developers, One Heritage, have submitted plans to Stockport Council to convert Seaton House on Wellington Street in the town centre into 35 apartments.
One Heritage purchased the office building, a former Victorian printworks, in January 2022 for £675,000 with plans to redevelop the property for housing. The property currently has permitted development rights to allow conversion to 12 apartments; however, the building’s new owners are seeking permission to construct a block of apartments on part of the property’s car park as well as a rooftop extension that will create space for the additional new homes.
Seaton House and its rooftop extension will comprise 12 one-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom apartments, while the new block will house 16 two-bedroom apartments and four three-bedroom duplex properties.
If approved, One Heritage have estimated that delivery of the scheme could cost in the region of £5.6 million, with the conversion complete by the end of 2023. The scheme would also be the developer’s second conversion of an office building into apartments within Stockport town centre, with work currently underway to extend and convert Plus House on St Petersgate into 18 apartments.
A brief pre-application consultation process with local residents and businesses received only a single objection.
Designs for the scheme have been drawn up by DAY Architects, who are also the architects behind the Royal George Village scheme near Stockport College.
