Great Places Housing Group and Clowes Developments have submitted plans for a development of 157 new homes to be built in Heald Green.
The submission of a planning application to Stockport Council follows a public consultation on the scheme during the summer of 2022. The site, between Wilmslow Road and Stanley Green takes in a mix of previously undeveloped Green Belt and brownfield land, previously used as parking for Manchester Airport.
Housing association, Great Places Housing Group, is set to deliver 112 affordable homes, a mix of flats, bungalows and houses of up to four bedrooms, on the site, with Clowes Developments adding a further 45 apartments for open sale.
In the development’s planning statement, prepared by Savills on behalf of the developers, it is argued that the significant contribution the scheme will make towards meeting Stockport’s shortfall in affordable homes (sitting at an undersupply of over 1,000 properties in the Heald Green area alone), outweighs the loss of some Green Belt land to the development. The site is also adjacent to the 325 new homes being brought forward on the former Seashell Trust campus.
Commenting at of the launch of the public consultation earlier this year, Nick Gornall, Great Places Housing Group Director of Development said of proposals:
“We are pleased to show our plans for Heald Green. Great Places has a strong track record in Stockport, and the North West in general, and this development gives us a great opportunity to continue building sustainable homes where there is high demand.
“Alongside Clowes Development, our ambition for this development is to provide Heald Green with a vibrant, stylish and affordable community. Together, our developments represent an investment of over £30M into the local economy, supporting over 465 jobs during construction.”
