A key milestone in Stockport’s housing journey has been marked as the Melford Road Development in Hazel Grove was officially opened at a ribbon?cutting ceremony attended by local dignitaries, partners, and members of the community.
Held on the afternoon of Friday 20th March, the event celebrated the transformation of the brownfield site into a vibrant new neighbourhood of 87 modern homes, delivered through a strong partnership between Viaduct Housing Partnership and Three Sixty Ltd, Stockport Homes Group’s in?house construction company.
The opening event featured speeches from Paul Worthington, Director of Property at Stockport Homes Group; and Councillor Jake Austin, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing & Environment (pictured, right, with Stockport Homes Group Chief Executive, Carmel Chambers).
The Melford Road Development offers a mix of attractive, energy?efficient homes designed with sustainability and community at their heart. The scheme features:
- 12 homes for affordable rent
- 40 shared ownership houses
- 28 shared ownership apartments
- 7 homes for market sale
All the houses on the development are now fully occupied, offering a warm and welcoming community. The completion of the apartment blocks marks the final phase of the project, with the last residents set to move in over the coming months.

The development provides residents with energy conscious homes where low running costs and environmentally responsible features have been prioritised throughout, including EV chargers for every house, PV panels on apartment blocks and selected houses, and level access to all ground?floor apartments.
The location offers excellent transport links being situated on a main bus route and within walking distance of Hazel Grove Train Station this supports Stockport Council’s environmental strategy and commitment to carbon neutrality.
The success of the project is testament to the strength of collaborative working across Three Sixty, Viaduct Housing Partnership, and wider professional teams, who collectively ensured high?quality construction, attractive design, and presentation throughout.
Guests at the event were invited to tour the development, including the stunning show apartment, offering a real sense of the high-quality interior specification and thoughtful layouts that future residents will enjoy.

The development received essential investment of £4.3 million from Homes England and £1.3 million from the GMCA Brownfield Housing Fund, enabling the regeneration of the former brownfield site into much?needed new homes for the borough.
Carmel Chambers, Chief Executive at Stockport Homes Group, said:
“This development is a fantastic example of partnership working at its best. Together, with the Council, we have created a high?quality, sustainable neighbourhood that will serve the Hazel Grove community for generations. I am proud that despite the challenges faced during the project, we now see these homes providing security, comfort, and opportunity for local families.”
Cllr Jake Austin, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing & Environment, said:
“It’s brilliant to see more high?quality, affordable homes being delivered in Stockport, providing real benefits for our residents. The Melford Road development is a great example of what can be achieved through strong partnership working, which will transform this location into a sustainable community where people are supported to put down roots.
“These new homes are not only energy?efficient, well?connected, and designed with the community in mind, but they support our wider ambitions for a greener, more inclusive Stockport.”
