“If you have something to say …… say it! But if you want to someone to hear what you are saying, say it well”.
That was the message heard by Stockport businesses last week when Marketing Stockport teamed up with the Stockport Express and Souter PR to run a workshop to demonstrate how every one of us can identify a story worth telling.
Trying to get our businesses heard in a very
competitive and noisy media environment is
increasingly difficult. Using basic principles
and measures we discussed how to produce
relevant and unique content that will benefit
businesses and support your marketing
activity.
With so many media channels available to us
to share our stories, there has never before
been the opportunity to reach such a vast
audience to make a big impact with relatively
little effort. Whether your target audience is
local to Stockport or you have a product and
service that is global – writing an interesting
story with relevant content is the key to getting heard. And it’s not just words – pictures are also important and paint that all important 1,000 words!
We can all create our own content, become authors, publishers and even broadcasters. But, as is the case of many successful businesses, it starts in the planning. Sue Souter gave some useful pointers:
“Think about your target customer – who are they? What do they want to know? What will interest them? What do you want them to hear? How technologically savvy are they? This will help to determine what you say, how and where you say it”.
