The Safer Neighbourhoods Service at Stockport Homes Group have successfully secured another Closure Order on a property at Hanover Towers.
The Order follows an escalation in reports of serious anti-social behaviour at the property on the Lancashire Hill Estate. Through collaboration with Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Stockport Council, Stockport Homes’ Safer Neighbourhoods team was able to gather the necessary evidence to take action against the occupier through the ‘Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014’ and improve safety for other tenants.
The Closure Order was granted at a hearing in Stockport Magistrates Court on Wednesday 7th August 2024 in response to the detrimental effect that persistent anti-social behaviour associated with the property was having on other local residents. GMP and the Safer Neighbourhoods team had also received complaints about drug activity, and threats to other residents and staff from visitors to the property.
A Closure Order prevents a property from being occupiers for a period of three months, ensuring protection and respite for neighbours while Stockport Homes Group takes back permanent possession of the property for new residents.
John Barber, Stockport Central Inspector at GMP, said:
“Greater Manchester Police are committed to support residents that report anti-social behaviour and will take a firm stance on those who breach regulations and cause distress to other residents. The Central Neighbourhood team have worked hard in a collaborative partnership with Stockport Homes Group to enforce a closure order granted on 7th August 2024“
Anne-Marie Heil, Director of Customer Services at Stockport Homes Group, said:
“Every resident deserves to feel safe and secure in their home. To achieve this, we have been working closely with Greater Manchester Police to effectively address all forms of anti-social behaviour. Our joint efforts have resulted in the successful closure of several troublesome properties, offering much-needed relief to our residents. This underscores our steadfast commitment to fostering a safe and secure community, ensuring all residents can feel confident and at ease in their homes.“
