GMCA launches consultation on Police and Crime Plan

Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has launched a public consultation on its Greater Manchester Police and Crime Plan, which will set out intentions for community safety across the city-region for the next three years.

The public consultation will run throughout the month of November 2021, before responses will be analysed and integrated into the final version of the plan that will be published in January 2022.

The Police and Crime Plan describes how the Mayor of Greater Manchester and GMCA will work with police and partners. It features three priorities for policing in the city-region, informed by a pre-consultation process with Community Safety Partnerships, Greater Manchester Police (GMP), business and community organisations and other stakeholders earlier this year; the three priorities are:

1. Keeping People Safe and Supporting Victims
2. Reducing Harm and Offending
3. Strengthening Communities and Places

The four-week public consultation is now live on GM Consult and residents of Greater Manchester are asked to read through each of the three priorities before sharing their views on what is important to keep them and their communities safe.

Bev Hughes, Greater Manchester’s Deputy Mayor for policing, crime, criminal justice and fire, said when launching the consultation on 1st November: 

“Today we have launched a public consultation on our proposals to refresh and bring up to date our Police and Crime Plan, which sets out the priorities for policing and community safety in our city-region for the next three years.

“My first priority is to protect and support the most vulnerable people in our society, ensuring that services work together to make the most impact and ensure everyone has access to the services they need, particularly as we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We will also focus on preventing anti-social and criminal behaviour including the most serious offending and terrorism by solving problems, intervening early and rehabilitating offenders to build confidence in the criminal justice system.

“Helping to build resilient and resourceful communities, including online communities, and protecting the places where people live, work and visit, will be a significant focus for the next three years, including through the important work outlined in our recently launched Gender Based Violence Strategy.

“Greater Manchester Police will be a vital part of this work and I will continue to oversee personally the implementation of the new Chief Constable’s improvement action plan, which will complement our priorities.

“We want to hear what you think of our proposed priorities, to make sure they are still the right ones, so please have your say.”
