itSimple Capital have entered a planning application to convert the derelict former night club on Fletcher Street, Stockport into a 15-bedroom property with shared living spaces for young professionals.
The Stockport site previously housed the Klub XXL and Pure night clubs but has been empty since 2014. The site will require significant investment to convert the building to a high standard of development as it has been allowed to fall into disrepair during the last five years. Plans submitted to the council show residents will have private bedrooms with en-suites, split across three floors, as well as access to secure bike storage. Residents will have access to shared kitchens, dining and living spaces, as well as laundry facilities.
The former night club is within the St Peter’s Conservation Area, however the structure dates to the 1980s and the submitted plans do not include significant changes to the exterior. The distinctive double-height archway will remain, and developers will open up windows and roof lights to allow for accommodation across three floors.
Supporting documents submitted alongside the planning application indicate that the developers believe the proposal will also bring economic benefits to the town centre through additional high-quality housing, bringing boosts to shops and businesses from additional footfall. According the application submitted:
“The scheme will be designed and furnished to a high standard and will be attractive to key workers and young professionals who value to accessibility of the site and its proximity to Stockport and Manchester City Centre.”
If approved, the former night club conversion will join several other ongoing housing developments within Stockport Town Centre. These include the conversion of the former Royal Mail sorting office and the regeneration of Stockport Town Centre West.
The decision by Stockport Borough Council on whether to grant the application is due to be made by the end of December 2019.
