Stockport has joined the Digital Radio Revolution with its very own DAB radio platform. Listeners can now access a host of new stations, in the car or at home.
Stockport’s commercial, local radio station, Strawberry Radio, launched in 2019 to fill the void left by Imagine FM, is named after the town’s iconic Recording Studios. Strawberry, one of the first stations to pioneer Small Scale DAB on the Manchester platform, is launching on Stockport DAB early December.
Station owner Paul Taylor says:
“We have waited a long time for Stockport to have its own DAB platform; these are very exciting times for Strawberry Radio. Local radio is making a resurgence. There are so many more opportunities to be heard with DAB; and with the growth of online, app and smart devices, audiences are growing larger every year.”
The switch to DAB means people travelling through their broadcast area are instinctively locked into local radio stations, bringing up-to-the-minute essential news, weather and traffic reports. As DAB radios automatically scan and lock onto available stations, listeners are ensured of seamless transition between channels.
Helen White, co-founder of Strawberry radio’s business news partner, Marketing Stockport commented:
“Stockport’s £1bn investment and regeneration programme is continuing to attract the attention of new audiences – investors, businesses, developers, and residents. Having a dedicated DAB platform for Stockport provides the perfect media portal, delivering the latest news, opinion pieces and interviews relevant to local interested parties as well as being able to broadcast to a much wider geographical audience from its online platform @strawberryradio or via your smart speaker.”
The enhanced sound quality, technological advancements, expanded channel options, and support for local and community broadcasting, all contribute to a richer and more diverse listening experience.
Taylor concluded:
“The future of radio in Stockport looks bright as the town rides the waves of innovation into a new era of digital broadcasting. Whether you’re looking for new opportunities, commuting, relaxing at home, or exploring the local community, DAB is set to be the soundtrack of Stockport’s future.”
