A drop-in event has opened its doors at Merseyway Shopping Centre, where visitors can view plans and give feedback on proposals to create a new One Stockport Hub in the town centre.
Plans for the One Stockport Hub were announced in September, which will see the former Argos unit in Mersey Square transformed into a modern, centrally located space. The Hub will provide a cultural and social experience, including a library service, in the heart of the town centre.
Library services currently located at Central Library on the A6 would be provided from the Hub, in a move that would mean the service would be more accessible to shoppers and visitors.
The drop-in event will take place Merseyway Shopping Centre and will be open from Monday to Friday between 10am-4pm until 9 October, and visitors will be able to view the proposed plans for a new One Stockport Hub and give their feedback. Representatives from Stockport Council will be on hand to introduce plans and answer any questions.
The events will take place in a Covid secure environment, with limited numbers, a one way system and social distancing in place. Visitors are also reminded to wear a face covering.
Cllr Kate Butler, Cabinet Member for Citizen Focus and Engagement at Stockport Council said:
These proposals will bring a range of services together, under one roof in a central, accessible location.
“I would encourage people to drop in and see for themselves what a modern library service looks like and how open, friendly and accessible it can be.”
Cllr David Meller, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council, said:
If you’re out and about in the town centre, we’d really like to hear your feedback on our plans. It’s important that we listen to our residents and provide a facility that meets the needs of local people.
“Town centres are changing and we need to move with the times and diversify our current offer. The One Stockport Hub will be a fantastic asset to the town centre and will create a space that visitors will want to spend time in.”
For those unable to attend the drop-in sessions in person, proposals and feedback questionnaire on the One Stockport Hub will be available online until 19th October.
