Stockport Council has today, 7th June, teamed up with other local authorities in a bid to recruit more people to become adopters.
The Council is working with Trafford, Tameside and Cheshire East Councils on a new initiative encouraging people to become adopters.
Councillor Wendy Meikle, Stockport Council’s Executive Member for Children and Young People, said:
“I would urge people to contact the Council’s Adoption Team to get more information about becoming an adopter. The Council is committed to recruiting more adopters to provide stable homes for looked after children of all ages.”
The scheme aims to encourage a diverse cross section of people to become adopters to provide permanent, loving and stable homes for a wide range of children currently waiting for adoption. It also aims to do this quicker by focusing on those potential parents who are looking to adopt:
- Local children
- Older children – particularly boys
- Sibling groups of 2, 3 and occasionally 4, aged between 3 and 7 years old
- Children with disabilities and/or development needs
- Children with dual heritage/minority ethnic background
The new initiative is called the ‘Four4Adoption Consortium’ and is funded by the Government Adoption Reform grant.
The initiative will be launched on 7th June. For more information about adoption visit www.stockport.gov.uk/adoption or call 0161 947 4646.
