Following the roll out of Live Well spaces in libraries across Stockport, Stockport Homes’ head office building, Cornerstone, is now also a place where borough residents can access support.
Based on Edward Street in the town centre, the new Live Well space builds on support already available and brings a wider range of services together in one place.
As a Live Well space, Cornerstone now offers integrated support in one place for the first time, bringing together a wider range of services so residents can get the help they need more easily, including:
- Housing advice and support
- Skills, training and employment guidance
- Money and benefits advice
- A dedicated DWP Youth Hub
- Access to databanks
- Digital support and inclusion services
- Immigration advice
- Citizens Advice
Together, Live Well spaces are creating a network of support across Stockport and online. Whether you pop into Cornerstone or visit your local library, we’ll help you find the right support and connect you to the people and services who can help.
Cllr Dan Oliver, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Public Protection, said:
“Live Well is all about making it easier for people to find the right help, in the right place, at the right time. This space at Cornerstone is another important step in building a connected network of support across Stockport.
“Alongside our libraries, Family Hubs, leisure centres and other community spaces, it will provide a welcoming place where residents can be signposted to advice, access support and stay connected to what’s happening in their local area.
“By bringing support into the places people already know and trust, we’re helping everyone to stay well, independent and connected in their communities.”
Marie Gilluley, Chair of SKylight Board, said:
“The launch of Stockport Live Well at Cornerstone is an important step forward in how we support residents across the Borough. By building on the support already in place and bringing partners together, we are creating a more connected, accessible offer for our communities.
“This is exactly the kind of collaborative approach we need to ensure people can easily find the right support, improve their wellbeing, and access new opportunities.”
Starting Point are one of the partners delivering sessions at Cornerstone, offering practical digital support to help residents get online and stay connected. This includes access to a Digital Lending Library with laptops, smartphones and tablets available for short term use, as well as support through the National Databank where eligible residents can receive mobile data, calls and texts at no cost. They also run free, informal digital skills sessions with one to one support.
Devices can also be bought at low cost through Community Computers and referrals can be made directly via their online form.
To find out more about sessions and support available, visit the Startpoint digital skills page or speak to the team at one of their Cornerstone sessions.
