Community groups in Stockport are being invited to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to fund projects that will encourage more people to choose to walk or cycle.
The ‘Cycle and Stride for Active Lives’ initiative is being led by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) thanks to a £1 million grant from the London Marathon Charitable Trust. The three-year programme aims to reach 10,000 people across Greater Manchester in communities where people are least active.
Applications are now open for community organisations to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to deliver an Active Travel Community Resource that will help inspire more people to walk, cycle or wheel.
Successful applicants could receive:
- Support from an experienced active travel officer at TfGM to help plan and deliver your project
- Cycle Training, led cycles and walks and much more
- A grant of up to £10,000
Cllr Mark Roberts, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment at Stockport Council, said:
“This is a fantastic scheme and I really hope community groups in Stockport apply so they can take advantage of what is on offer.
“Having the opportunity to take advantage of professional training should be a real incentive for groups to submit their applications and therefore boost the number of people in their area who are walking and cycling on a daily basis.
“It is a healthier option and something we can all benefit from with the reduction in congestion and air pollution that comes from less local journeys taken by car.”
Further information about the grant scheme and details of how to apply can be found on the TfGM Bee Active website.
