Stockport businesses are being encouraged to explore the ‘Match my Project’ platform to see how they can support community organisations in the borough.
‘Match my Project’ provides a way for charities and other non-profit organisations to connect with local businesses who can support them with specific asks or projects. Clare Taylor, from Stockport Council, spoke to Marketing Stockport members earlier this month to explain how the scheme has also helped forge longer lasting partnerships between local businesses and members of the borough’s voluntary and community sector.
A number of requests and projects currently listed on the portal are digital or business focused and businesses are being invited to see if they have the skills internally to help these community organisations with some of their needs. In return the organisation that you provide support to may also have skills and resources that you could tap in.
If you think you may be able to help or would like to discuss opportunities further please contact Stockport Council’s Stockport Local Fund Delivery Manager, Clare Taylor, for more information, or visit the Match my Project website to view the full range of asks from local community organisations.
Some of the projects currently live on the ‘Match my Project’ portal include:
Talk about Money CIC – Laptop and Mobile
A laptop and a smart phone is required to allow the community money guider to complete online applications, carry out benefits checks, give presentations and complete training
Starting Point Community Learning – Basecamp Support
Helping us to be more efficient so we can support more people. Teaching our small staff team how to use Basecamp.
As we start to work with more external partners and out inboxes are being clogged up with “reply to all” emails, we want to move our collaboration to Basecamp. We have created accounts and have started some small projects (including a test) internally but haven’t shared with clients yet. We would like some informal support for our small team on how to use basecamp in the best way. Maybe half a day of training?
Keira Kingdom – Website Support
To enable Keira’s Kingdom to have a website that describes our services appropriately. Keira’s Kingdom already has a website but it is very outdated and not very informative. Our work has progressed so much since we launched the current website. I am unable to carry out website maintenance, or adjust the website. The website would reach many people and they would be able to access our information much easier.
Starting Point – Articulate Rise/360 for small social Enterprise
Ideally we would like someone with experience of designing training on Articulate to spend some time with our team to support us to create great training on Articulate 360.
Starting Point – Graphic Design and Publicity Volunteer
A graphic design volunteer could volunteer entirely in their own time, at any time, and from home, or come into our office if they have a laptop they can bring with them.
Graphic design skills and their own computer with appropriate softwear for design. We don’t have this at our organisation unfortunately.
Good quality flyers and publicity materials, as well as engaging social media posts and attractive reports and handbooks will help us create a good impression, encourage those who need help to access our service, and create trust from the first interaction with us.
Starting Point – Digital Volunteers
We support our learners to gain digital skills that are useful for work, and to search for work online
Our sessions can vary from 2 hours once a month to an hour every week. If someone can volunteer once a month for 1 hour, this adds up to the equivalent of 2 days volunteering in a year
We support people to create online accounts to access social housing, look for private rented housing, and access support from other organisations ie Shelter. Our project is focused on Digital inclusion and learning digital skills. We support people to compare prices online to save money, to access support from Citizens Advice and Stockport council, and to use online budgeting tools. We support other voluntary organisations to be able to offer digital skills support to their participants when organisations themselves don’t feel confident, or have capacity to do this
