Insurance provider, AXA, has agreed to provide accommodation for seven days for residents of Meadow Mill displaced by flooding over New Year.
The decision by AXA follows a meeting with Stockport Council on the afternoon of Friday 10th January, with accommodation provided from that evening. The Council had previously called for urgent action from the Meadow Mill insurer, owners and management company following challenges faced by displaced residents in securing funds to remain in temporary accommodation, sharing an open letter to involved parties on Thursday 9th January.
Cllr Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said:
“I’m pleased that AXA has finally stepped up and done the right thing for residents. This has been an incredibly difficult time for those affected and ensuring they have somewhere safe and warm to stay is welcome news ahead of residents returning to their homes safely as soon as possible.”
The Council welcomes this decision and will remain in close contact with AXA and other parties to ensure residents receive the help they need.
